The first thing up on the wall is our Wow God board. We learned in Missionary Training how important it is to praise God in all things. We put it by our door so we can invite guests to also write down and pin up their Thanksgivings to the Lord. "Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
Sacrifice to false gods
Here is another sacrifice to a false god of chicken feet, popcorn, matches and feathers left just steps from our apartment building. Please add the city of Porto Alegre into your regular prayer rotation. This spiritualism religion has a huge foothold here and the spiritual warfare can be felt all around . Just tonight I was in my living room talking to Daniel and in mid sentence I stopped because I felt this strong sense to pray. I looked my window and there stood a woman in a beautiful African dress. I began to pray for her, not knowing why God promoted me, but sensing somehow that she is part of this religion. "But you belong to God, my children, and have defeated the false prophets, because the spirit who is in you is more powerful than the spirit in those who belong to the world." I John 4:4
Daniel's First Day of School
Today is Daniel's (known here in Brazil as Christopher) first day of high school. Please pray for him as he transitions to his new school. Although some of the classes are taught in English, he is required to obtain his Brazilian high school diploma along side his American one. These classes are taught in Portuguese. The school offers him a Portuguese as a second language tutor to help him in the classrooms that are taught in Portuguese. Also, the social language of the school is Portuguese so pray for good friendships and quick language learning. We are so thankful today that God opened the doors for him to go to this school.
Monica and Olivia finish Portuguese lessons at Bem Brasil
Monica and Olivia finished their before school Portuguese lessons today and got to write a message on the student wall. I am proud of these two. They have been studying hard and working diligently at the language. Monday they start school! A big step for them for sure!
Language Learning Time!
We started language school today. The teacher started the class by saying that she was going to speak Portuguese the whole class and if we had a question we had to stop her and ask. I was surprised how much of what she said I understood. For homework I am to write an email to a family in Brazil asking them if I can live with them during my language class. Whew! I don't know if it is right, but I'll find out Thursday. Although challenging I am so excited to learn the language and break through this barrier!!!!
